Itinerary for 5 days from Marrakech to Fes:
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades Gorges
Your journey begins with a pickup in Marrakech, heading towards Ouarzazate via the stunning Tizi Ntichka Pass (2,260 m) over the High Atlas Mountains. Enjoy the scenic landscapes and Berber villages along the way. We’ll visit the famous Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest Kasbah in Morocco. After lunch near the Kasbah, we’ll continue through Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” and along the “Route of a Thousand Kasbahs.” We’ll pass through the Valley of Roses, famous for its annual flower festival in May, before reaching our hotel overlooking the Dades Valley. Overnight at the hotel/riad. Dinner, bed, and breakfast included.
Day 2: Dades Gorges - Todra Gorges - Merzouga
After breakfast, we’ll explore the Dades Valley, known for its dramatic rock formations, including the “Monkey Toes,” and the historic 19th-century Kasbah of Ait Yul. We’ll then continue towards the Todra Valley, where you’ll see panoramic views of Berber mud villages and the towering red cliffs of Todra Gorge, which rise 300 meters high. After lunch in Erfoud or Rissani, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, where your camel will be waiting to take you on an adventure through the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. You’ll be welcomed with mint tea before checking into your accommodation. Overnight at the hotel/riad. Dinner, bed, and breakfast included.
Day 3: Merzouga Region and Camel Trek
After breakfast, we’ll explore the Merzouga region, visiting the Gnaoua people, descendants of slaves from Sudan, to experience their music and culture. We’ll also visit Merzouga Lake, a seasonal home to a variety of birds, including flamingos. You can shop for Berber handicrafts at the Bedouin Wire House before heading back to your hotel for some rest. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on a camel trek guided by an experienced camel driver, exploring the mysterious sea of sand in Erg Chebbi. Spend the night under the stars in a traditional Berber tent, with dinner served in the camp. Dinner, overnight, and breakfast included.
Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Ziz Valley - Midelt
Rise early to watch the sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast. After a camel ride back to the hotel, we’ll travel to Midelt, passing through the towns of Rissani and Erfoud. In Rissani, you’ll have the opportunity to explore an authentic souk, known for its variety of vegetables, spices, and dates. Our journey continues along the Tizi Ntalghamt Pass and through the Ziz Valley, with a stop to admire the panoramic views. We’ll arrive in Midelt in the late afternoon. Overnight at the hotel/riad. Dinner, bed, and breakfast included.
Day 5: Midelt - Azrou - Ifrane - Fes
After breakfast, we’ll depart for Fes, passing through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. Along the way, we’ll stop in Zaida for a barbecue lunch and mint tea. We’ll continue our journey through the Tizi Ntalghamt Pass, stopping in Azrou to visit the famous Cedar Forest, home to the Barbary monkeys. Next, we’ll visit Ifrane, often referred to as the “Little Switzerland” of Morocco, where you can take pictures or enjoy a quick drink. The tour concludes in Fes, where you’ll be dropped off at your accommodation.
