Itinerary for 3 days from Marrakech to Fes:
Day 1: Marrakech - Ouarzazate - Ait ben haddou - Boumaln dades
We begin our 3-day tour from Marrakech to Fes by picking you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech. The journey takes us through the Tizi-N-Tichka pass in the High Atlas Mountains, leading to the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1987. After exploring this famous kasbah, which has been the backdrop for films like Gladiator and The Mummy, we continue to Ouarzazate for lunch.
In the afternoon, we drive to the Oasis of Skoura, a small village surrounded by lush palm groves. From there, we proceed to the Rose Valley and finally to Dades Gorge, where we will have dinner and stay overnight at a hotel or riad. This marks the end of the first day of our 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour.
Day 2: Boumalne Dadès - todra Gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga desert camp.
The second day of our tour is filled with adventure as we journey from Boumalne Dades to the desert camp in Merzouga. Our first stop is in Tinghir, a Berber village whose name means “shoulder” in the local language. Tinghir was once a military post during the French colonization of Morocco.
After lunch at a local café, we continue to Erfoud, known as the capital of marble fossils. Here, you can visit a stone workshop before we head towards Merzouga, crossing rocky terrain. In Merzouga, our camels will be waiting to take us on a trek across the sand dunes, where we’ll enjoy a stunning sunset and take beautiful photos. The camel guide will assist you as needed. After the sunset, we’ll head to our desert camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner under a star-filled sky, listen to traditional nomadic music, and dance around the campfire. This will be our second night of the 3-day Marrakech to Fes desert tour.
Day 3: Desert camp - Midelt - Ifran - Fes
On the final day, we’ll wake up early to witness the amazing sunrise in the desert, followed by a delicious breakfast at the camp. Afterward, the camel guide will take us back to Merzouga, where our driver will be waiting to continue the journey to Fes.
We’ll drive through the Ziz Valley near Errachidia, the capital of the Tafilalt region, stopping for panoramic views. Our journey continues to Midelt, a city known for its apples and as a commercial center for the surrounding agricultural area. Midelt is also one of Morocco’s principal cities for mining several minerals. We’ll stop for lunch here before driving through the Middle Atlas Mountains, passing through cedar forests and Berber towns like Imouzar.
We’ll also stop in the cedar forest to observe Barbary Apes in their natural habitat. Afterward, we’ll visit Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” The name “Ifrane” is derived from the local Amazigh language, meaning “caves.” In 2013, Ifrane was ranked the second cleanest city in the world. The city is known for its outdoor activities, and we’ll also see the famous stone lion in the city center, a symbol of the region.
After visiting Ifrane, we’ll continue to Fes, passing through small Berber towns along the way. Our 3-day tour from Marrakech to Fes ends with an overnight stay at a hotel or riad in Fes.
